Report: WR Lockhart Chooses Virginia Tech

The PalmBeachPost.com reports tonight that West Boca Raton (Boca Raton, FL) wide receiver Robert Lockhart has committed to Virginia Tech. The Hokies win out over Kansas State and Nebraska, among others, and now boast 20 commitments in the 2011 class.

The 6-2, 175-pound senior had a whirlwind month of January, making official visits to all three finalists over the course of a week. Virginia Tech scored the final official visit, which was made this past weekend.

“The visit to VT went very well,” Robert’s mother, Lyn, wrote to TSL via e-mail.

A starter at wide receiver and free safety at West Boca Raton, Lockhart is being recruited by Virginia Tech to play wide receiver. He is the third wide receiver recruit in Tech’s 2011 class, joining Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) standout Kevin Asante and Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA) speedster Demitri Knowles.

As a senior, Lockhart hauled in 34 receptions for 686 yards and six touchdowns.

“I have nice size. I’m fast. I’m quick, and I consider myself a great route runner,” Lockhart said in a previous interview discussing his talents at wide receiver. “I think I have the total package. I see myself as an X receiver, but maybe moving around too.”

TSL will have much more on Lockhart’s commitment on Tuesday, so stay tuned. You can also check out the report by the PalmBeachPost.com, which is linked for you below.
