Tech’s Newest Commit Discusses Decision

It was over his school’s winter break that Darius Redman seriously started considering a change regarding his college future. Ultimately, the 6-4, 240-pound tight end prospect’s decision to de-commit from Virginia and commit to Virginia Tech came down to a gut feeling. Redman made his decision public yesterday, when Tech coaches Bryan Stinespring and Kevin Sherman made the trek up to H.D. Woodson High School (Washington, D.C.).

“It was nothing against UVa,” Redman said. “I just feel Virginia Tech’s the better fit for me.”

Virginia Tech’s success at H.D. Woodson certainly didn’t hurt here. Former Crimson Tide quarterback Ricardo Young enrolled at Tech last January, and Redman’s classmate, Adeboye Aromire, is enrolling this month.

“I like the school in general,” Redman said of Virginia Tech, where he’ll make an official visit the weekend of January 21. “It’s a prestigious school. They also use the tight end in their offense. They use 2-tight end sets. And they’ve had a lot of H.D. Woodson players in the past like Josh Morgan, Ricardo Young and Boye (Aromire).”
