Catching Up With DE Commit Matt Roth

Six months since verbally committing to head coach Frank Beamer, Nease (Ponte Vedra, FL) defensive end prospect Matt Roth is now just over a month away from signing a letter of intent with Virginia Tech.

“The Hokies are my school,” said Roth, who chose Tech over offers from Duke, Michigan State, Purdue, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Reflecting on his decision, Roth said, “The opportunity of playing for such a big program is what I always wanted. Also, there are the academics. I want to study Engineering and Virginia Tech is one of the best out there.”

Roth made his college choice five days after making his first ever trip to Virginia Tech. His second visit occurred on the weekend of October 23, when Virginia Tech defeated ACC-rival Duke.
