Another Offer Comes From Camp

Nansemond River (Suffolk, VA) defensive end Dewayne Alford has certainly made his rounds this summer, attending camps at East Carolina, JMU, Marshall, ODU, Virginia, Virginia Tech and William & Mary. The 6-4, 225-pound rising senior was at Virginia Tech on Saturday and performed well. A few days later, he received some good news.

“He did pretty good at the [Virginia Tech] camp. Actually, they offered,” Nansemond River head coach Tracey Parker said. “They waited a couple of days and then they offered. It’s a grey-shirt. They had seen him all along. They had film and things on him. They knew the name. They liked him, but I’m sure they had other offers already out there and that’s why they have to offer the grey-shirt.”

UVa is among the other FBS programs expressing serious interest. But Virginia Tech is Alford’s third offer and certainly the biggest.

“He’s excited,” Parker said. “He had a couple of offers on the board already. JMU and ODU were on the board. That’s a little different than Virginia Tech or UVa. He might go to a one-day at Tennessee on July 20. There is a possibility there, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be looking to make a decision sometime before the season starts.”
