VT Gains Top Florida Defensive End

Nease (Ponte Vedra, FL) defensive end prospect Matt Roth made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech last Thursday. The visit, the 6-3, 230-pound rising senior’s first and only visit to Blacksburg, was all Tech needed to secure its seventh commitment in the 2011 class.

“I got to see all the facilities and everything they are doing for the future with the upgrades,” Roth said, recalling last Thursday’s visit. “I really only knew the football success Virginia Tech has had before the visit. I got to meet the coaches and just had a great visit. Coach Beamer has had a great career.”

Duke, Michigan State, Purdue, South Carolina and West Virginia had also offered Roth, who feels he has found the right fit academically and athletically at Virginia Tech.

“I had a really great visit at Virginia Tech,” Roth said. “It is a top program in the country. They win every year. It has one of the best construction programs in the country, which is big for me. That’s what I want to do after football. I just felt like part of the family there.”
