Cole Reflects On VT Visit

Michael Cole admits he has been to Virginia Tech many times before, so there isn’t much left to see as he looks to decide his college future. The 6-2, 200-pound Cave Spring (Roanoke, VA) linebacker/safety was back in Blacksburg on Saturday, however, for Tech’s one-day camp. He felt good about the visit.

“I just kind of went up there to talk to the coaches to get to know them better,” said Cole, who grew up a Tech fan and has been to games. Last year, he took a thorough tour of the campus. “Coach Beamer and Coach Stinespring, they both reiterated how much they wanted me to come there. That was important for me to hear. The visit was really good, just to get to know them and create a bond.”

One topic of discussion was the grey-shirt. Cole has been offered by Tech as a grey-shirt, meaning he would sign with the Hokies in February but be on scholarship starting in January of 2012.

“Basically, Coach Beamer told me that, in his eyes, it’s a good thing,” Cole said. “A lot of times, freshmen don’t come in and play right away. If that is the case, it may be best to take an extra semester and still come in and have five years left. It sounds pretty good.”
