The Latest On PG Ty Garland

Virginia Tech point guard recruit Ty Garland has less than a month to go before he graduates from John Bartram High in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His primary focus right now is finishing out strong in the classroom to be able to get to Blacksburg this summer. Right now, he is confident in the job he’s doing.

“I know I’m close and should be fine,” Garland said. “I’ve almost got honors for the year.”

He added that he has “got to make sure my GPA stays where it is. I still need to bring [the SAT or ACT] up to make sure. Where my grades are right now, I’m in good position right now.”

A prolific scorer, the 6-1, 165-pound Garland amassed 2,198 points over the course of a stellar high school basketball career. He averaged 28 points per game as a junior and 25 points per game as a senior. He has seen action at point guard and two guard on the high school level, but where will he play for head coach Seth Greenberg?
