Manchester (Midlothian, VA) offensive tackle Jake Goins did not come away with a Virginia Tech scholarship offer last Saturday, but he remains highly interested in the program. The 6-5, 280-pound prospect hopes to earn an offer at some point in the spring or summer.

“I like Tech a lot,” said Goins, a first-team all-Dominion district selection in 2009. “It is probably one of my favorites. It is a great school with great fans. I can tell the coaches care about the players, which is really cool. I still have to check out things with Virginia with the new coaching staff, but I like Tech a lot. I’m sure UVa will be cool, too.”

Goins will visit Virginia on Saturday. Maryland has also extended an invite for one of its upcoming junior day events. Virginia is the only school to extend an official offer right now, but could Virginia Tech be on the verge?

“The coaches said they’ve still got a few scholarships to give out,” Goins said. “They are looking at all of their prospects, seeing which ones will be the most beneficial to them. They said they only expect to have 10 scholarships or something, so they need to see what they need in the class. The coaches are still running the numbers and stuff.
