Checking in with VT Recruit Jerome Lewis

A commitment to Virginia Tech didn’t deter other college coaches from pursuing Bishop Kearney (Rochester, N.Y.) tight end/defensive end Jerome Lewis . According to the 6-4, 230-pound rising senior, three programs – Colorado, Oklahoma and Penn State – offered after he committed to Tech back on May 26th. He has been firm on his commitment, though, and seems set on following through and signing with Frank Beamer and company.

“[Bishop Kearney Head] Coach [Eddie] Long sat me down and talked to me about it one day. I had committed and knew where I wanted to go, but I still was in contact with other coaches,” Lewis said. “He asked the question if I was with Virginia Tech or not. He said there are other good schools out there, but I told him I didn’t want to go anywhere else. Virginia Tech is where I feel I need to be. There is no question who I will be signing with on February 3rd. I’ve shut everything down.”

Lewis committed to Virginia Tech a week after being offered, at the time choosing the Hokies over offers from Minnesota, Pitt, Purdue and Syracuse. He had never visited Virginia Tech at the time of his commitment and still has yet to visit, but he is highly confident in the decision he made.

“My mother asked why Virginia Tech,” recalled Lewis, who hopes to attend Virginia Tech’s home game versus Nebraska and possibly the home game versus Miami as well. “I told her I honestly didn’t know. It’s like a girl I can’t get off my mind. I just know she is perfect. That’s pretty much the closest thing I can compare it to. I just know exactly where I want to go.”
