Miller Continues to Shine on the Gridiron

Virginia Tech has had to get creative with its scholarship use in this 2009 class and the staff really earned creativity points in the situation with Bassett (VA) offensive lineman Andrew Miller . The 6-5, 275-pound senior, a standout wrestler as well, will be on a wrestling scholarship his first year at Virginia Tech and will then switch to football for the rest of his college career.

Miller did not sign a letter of intent in July with Tech wrestling as previously planned, but Bassett head coach James Gilbert says the plan remains the same.

“I don’t think he actually signed the paper, but he is one hundred percent sure of what he is going to do,” Gilbert said of Miller, who chose Virginia Tech over football-only offers from Florida State, Virginia and Wake Forest.

“His brother (Tim, who is on a wrestling scholarship at Virginia Tech) and the connections with Tech had the final impact, I think. He and his brother were pretty tight growing up.”
