Wilson Excited About Commitment to Virginia Tech

The news broke on Friday that George Washington (Danville, VA) star running back David Wilson , one of the top overall players in the state of Virginia’s 2009 class, had verbally committed to Virginia Tech. This morning, the 5-11, 190-pound standout discussed his decision further at a press conference at his high school.

Wilson received close to 20 Division 1A scholarship offers from top Division 1A programs, but in the end his decision came down to two schools – Virginia Tech and Auburn. After returning from an unofficial visit to Auburn, he decided last week that he didn’t need to make any further visits and he didn’t need to make any official visits, either. He knew where he wanted to go.

“You go to all these different campuses, and they’ve all got great buildings and great facilities. It’s just the people in the buildings that make the colleges different, and I felt comfortable with the people there [at Virginia Tech],” Wilson said of his decision.

Virginia Tech was led in this recruitment by Offensive Coordinator Bryan Stinespring, who, according to GW-Danville head coach Dan Newell, contacted Newell every day for the past few months. Wilson developed a comfort level with Stinespring as well as running backs coach Billy Hite.
