6-7, 205-pound guard/forward Brian Oliver transferred from William Penn High School (New Castle, DE) to prestigious Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) mid-way through his junior year. The transfer was well worth it, from a basketball development standpoint as well as from a personal growth standpoint, but Oliver admits that initial times were a little on the trying side.

“Oak Hill is a great school with a proven history of being one of the best in the country every year,” said Oliver, who helped Oak Hill to a 25-3 record in 2007/2008. “I transferred into Oak Hill in the middle of the season and it was a big adjustment. I had never been away from home before and all of a sudden I had to learn to do stuff for myself. I went from being the man and having plays drawn up for me at my old high school to being in a position where I had to learn plays and learn a whole different playing style. Plus, the starting lineup had been in place for half the season already, which meant I was learning to play coming off the bench for the first time ever. I really liked playing with the guys and getting to know them all.

“Overall, the experience has been very positive not only for basketball, but for moving on to the next level as well. I’ve had a chance to get more comfortable at Oak Hill and have been building relationships with the coaches. I am looking forward to returning next year.”
