One of the most highly touted prospects in Virginia Tech’s 2008 recruiting class, Dyrell Roberts , a 4-star recruit who was rated the #2 overall prospect in the state in TSL’s Postseason Top 30, knows there are a lot of expectations of him as his Tech career is about to begin. Though Roberts excelled at running back at Smithfield High School – the first-team all-state performer rushed for 2,235 yards as a senior and 1,000 yards as a junior – he is coming in to Tech projected as a wide receiver and the opportunity for early playing time is there.

The Virginia Tech coaches believe Roberts can make an immediate contribution, and the 6-2, 190-pound prospect seems up to the task.

“I just want to go in to Virginia Tech, where there is a different atmosphere, focus on my summer school class and get ready for football,” said Roberts, who plans to arrive in Blacksburg the last week in June. He graduates from Smithfield on June 14th. “I’m already training now. The Tech coaches know what I can do if I take what I did from the high school level to college. I’m just going to do what I can do.”
