Victor Davila Selected First Team All-State, Plus Highlight Videos

If there’s one thing Wednesday night’s loss to Ole Miss showed, it’s that you
can never have enough post players. The Hokies could have used some more beef to
combat the Rebels’ big men, and 2008 signee Victor Davila will help in that
area. Listed at 6-8, 230 when he committed to Tech last September, Davila has
added an inch and ten pounds, and now goes 6-9, 240.

Davila led his high school, Starmount (Boonville, NC) to the Class 2-A state
final in 2007 and to the Class 2-A Western Regional in 2008. He averaged 20
points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game as a junior. This past season he
averaged 20 points, 11.5 rebounds and six blocked shots. Davila is Starmount’s
career leader in points (1,941) and rebounds (1,470).

Davila was named a first-team all-state selection by The Associated Press for
the second straight season yesterday. After observing the 2-A regional playoffs,
Charlotte Observer writer Langston Wertz Jr. wrote of Davila, “His
athleticism and bulk will cause problems in the ACC.”

YouTube has plenty of Davila highlights to peruse, including a 28-point
performance against Oak Hill way back in 2005. Davila is #44 in the first linked clip, and #14 in the other linked clips:
