After leading Fairmont Heights (Capital Heights, MD) to a Class 2A state championship appearance as a senior last season, 6-3, 185-pound guard Kendall Durant , a Virginia Tech recruit, took his game to New Hampton Prep (N.H.) and impressed head coach Peter Hutchins this season.

Playing “arguably the most difficult schedule in the country” according to Hutchins, Durant and his teammates, two future Ivy League players and one Rhode Island basketball recruit, went 10-18 on the year. Durant averaged 16 points, five assists and five rebounds per game, showing consistently scoring ability throughout the year.

“When we recruited Kendall, after all the research we had done, everyone talked about his physical talents and character as a person,” Hutchins said. “He is physically gifted, so that was true. As a person, he is a tremendous kid. He was exactly what we expected. He shoots much better than we originally thought. He was our most consistent scorer and our best 3-point shooter. We were surprised at that part.”
