David Wang Impressing This Offseason

First, there was winning the state championship title as a member of the Stone Bridge Bulldogs (Ashburn, VA) varsity football squad. Then, there was being name first-team all-state offensive lineman by the Virginia High School Coaches Association. And recently, David Wang came away as one of the top performers at the Nike Combine in Pittsburgh.

At the combine, Wang produced a total SPARQ rating of 102.21. The rating factors in a player’s 40-yard dash, pro agility time, vertical leap and power ball throw. The rating also factors in a player’s height and weight.

“My 40-yard dash time was 5.25 seconds. That was laser-timed,” Wang said. “I felt like I could’ve done better. I didn’t think I did as well as I could’ve in the pro agility, either. My pro agility time was 4.71 seconds. My vertical leap was 30.4 inches. I did get the national record for the power ball throw. That is where you get on your knees and throw a medicine ball. You just use your upper body. It replaced the bench press, so this is the first year it has been done. My throw went 47 feet, one inch.”

The Stone Bridge offensive lineman/defensive tackle measured in at 6-1 1/2, 302 pounds at the event. Having worked with Velocity over the past few years, Wang is excited at the improvement he has made in his overall athleticism.
