Macho Harris Going Pro

Virginia Tech has lost both of their starting junior cornerbacks to the NFL. Six days after Brandon Flowers said he was going pro early, fellow junior Victor “Macho” Harris has also declared for the NFL Draft. The announcement was through the Virginia Tech Athletic Department Saturday.

Harris is projected as a third round pick in the draft, which is usually not strong enough enticement for leaving early. He was a first team All-ACC selection this season and had five interceptions, 36 tackles and 11 pass breakups.

The Hokies must now replace eight starters from their defense: senior defensive linemen Carlton Powell, Barry Booker, and Chris Ellis; senior linebackers Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi; senior free safety D.J. Parker; and junior cornerbacks Flowers and Harris.

Top candidates at cornerback for next season are Rashad Carmichael, Stephan Virgil, and Cris Hill. Virgil will be a junior, Carmichael a redshirt sophomore, and Hill a redshirt freshman.
