Catching up with Jeron Gouveia

Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) senior and Virginia Tech commit Jeron Gouveia has played every possible skill position on offense throughout his varsity football career, which began in his freshman year. That has not changed this season, as Gouveia has been able to make an impact from all over the field in 2007.

“I try to get on the field as much as possible,” Gouveia said. “I can play wide receiver, running back, quarterback or tight end. They’ll do whatever possible to get me the ball and make a big play. That works well for me and it helps our team because I can be a threat everywhere.

“I really just play safety on defense, but I do come up and support the line a lot. If I see the runner, I come up hard.”

In last week’s Group AAA, Division 5 state semifinal, Gouveia made the biggest impact at the running back position. He rushed for over 100 yards and three second-half scores in leading Stone Bridge to a 38-24 win over Phoebus. After a sour end to the first half, Gouveia and company roared back for 24 second half points.
