Fuller’s Success Continues Into Senior Season

Austin Fuller and the rest of Richlands’ (VA) senior class certainly are used to winning. The class has contributed to the team’s 32 consecutive regular season win streak, a streak they hope to continue tonight versus an undefeated Abingdon Falcons squad. The Blue Tornados (3-0) are coming off a hard-fought victory over Powell Valley last Friday.

“It doesn’t feel like we’re going to lose,” said Fuller, whose team defeated Powell Valley 27-19 last week. “We were losing last week at halftime and it was the first time we have been losing at halftime since my freshman or sophomore year. It just didn’t feel like we were going to lose.

“If we lost, I’d probably go into a funk for a week (laughs).”

As a junior last season, the 6-2, 195-pound Fuller made 57 receptions for 1,092 yards and 15 touchdowns. He added four rushing touchdowns. This season, he estimates that he spends about 30-percent of the time at quarterback and also sees time at running back, but primarily he is playing wide receiver. On defense, he plays free safety. He plays on special teams as well, so he rarely comes off the field.
