Wang Discusses Decision

It took the length of Saturday’s game versus East Carolina for 6-2, 293-pound David Wang to accept a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech. Wang, a junior offensive lineman/defensive lineman out of Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA), is Virginia Tech’s first verbal commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.

“I did it Saturday after the ECU game,” Wang said of his commitment. “Me and my dad went to go find Coach Beamer. When we found him, we told him. He had said before the game that I had a full scholarship offer. When I told Coach Beamer, Coach Gray was there too. They were both really excited. They told me they wanted me to have fun this year and to keep my grades up.”

Wang is the brother of redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Ed Wang. Prior to receiving the offer from head coach Frank Beamer, the talented junior was obviously extremely high on the Hokies. He had had several positive experiences in Blacksburg, where he was able to see the coaches up close and personal. He also camped at Tech this past summer.

“I just liked Tech and how the coaches interact with the players,” Wang said. “I watched a couple of the scrimmages and they’re just real helpful. Even when a player would mess up, the coaches don’t really get mad. My brother has had the first hand experience and he said they are real supportive. Ever since he got hurt, they have been supporting him and encouraging him to get back as soon as possible.”
