It wasn’t until this morning that 6-2, 195-pound Smithfield (VA) star athlete Dyrell Roberts knew for sure that Virginia Tech was the school he would choose, but it was almost two months ago when the Tech program really solidified itself as the favorite. Virginia Tech’s June 9th camp, Roberts’ first ever visit to Blacksburg, was the key part of this recruitment.

Prior to that visit, the University of Virginia had done an excellent job recruiting Roberts and perhaps had the edge. He had visited Charlottesville on numerous occasions including camp last summer, preseason practice last summer, the February 24th junior day and the Spring Game. He enjoyed all of those experiences, but the trip to Tech changed things.

“I was looking for the gut feeling and I had it at Tech,” Roberts said. “I knew it as soon as I hit the campus, when they were talking to me about the school and the program and about playing early.”
