Two proven starters, one solid backup and a number of question marks is the
only way to describe Tech’s linebacker corps heading into 2007. The Hokies will
likely be fine, but if the dreaded injury bug pops up, they could be in some
serious trouble. Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall are locking down the starting jobs
on the inside, but who will start at whip? And do the Hokies have any capable
backups? Those are questions that will begin to be answered this spring.

The Hokies use two inside linebackers, called the mike and backer, and an
outside (whip) linebacker. Tech is set with their starters on the inside, Hall
and Adibi. They have just one scholarship player who is currently listed at
whip. And they really have no proven depth at inside linebacker.

With question marks amongst the backups at inside linebacker, don’t expect
Hall and Adibi to get a whole lot of reps this spring. They are proven players
and there is no reason to risk them being injured. Instead, it’s better to
develop depth behind them.
