Taylor Continues Great Play

Demetrius Taylor displays his quiet, unassuming personality on and off the field. What isn’t quiet is his talent on the gridiron – talent that helped him earn a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech earlier this year. While Taylor has an abundance of talent, sometimes it’s tough to see in the way he plays – which is within the system.

“He’s made a lot of strides,” Kellam Head Coach Chris DeWitt said of his star player. “He could try to do too much because he is so special, but really I think what makes Demetrius a great football player is that he doesn’t get outside of what we want him to do. He doesn’t try to do too much. If he starts trying to do too much, then we’re not very good. He is a very good player at just doing what he’s told to do.”

Taylor has helped Kellam to a 5-2 record in 2004. He has not only helped his team on defense, but he has been very productive as a running back as well. He has had several 100-yard rushing games this season, including a 195-yard, 3-touchdown performance versus Ocean Lakes earlier this year.

“I think I’ve improved at running back,” Taylor said. “Last year I was a linebacker trying to play running back, but this year I feel like I’m both. I’ve improved at running back mostly and I feel I’ve stayed about the same at linebacker.”
