DL Barry Booker Commits to the Hokies (6/21/02)

As noted in TSLMail #36 earlier today, TechSideline.com’s message board has been buzzing with the news of a commitment to Tech by DL Barry Booker of Amherst High School. Last night and all day today, web and print media attempted to contact Booker and his coach to verify the commitment, to no avail.

Richmond Times-Dispatch sportswriter Mike Harris was finally able to get through to Booker and confirm the commitment. Booker spoke to Harris early this afternoon, and the news was posted on the RT-D’s web site.

Booker, who played linebacker/fullback last season for now-departed coach Mickey Crouch, has continued to grow and will play defensive end for new Amherst coach Scott Abell. Booker is listed as 6-5, 255, up 2 inches and 15 pounds from last year. He runs a 4.8 forty and projects as a DL in college.

Booker is Tech’s fourth verbal of the 2003 recruiting class, joining Centreville (VA) offensive lineman Matt Welsh, Magna Vista (VA) defensive lineman Kory Robertson, and Miami (FL) Central QB Courtney Denson.
